Gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract organs diagnostics is unthinkable without ultrasound examination of abdomen (stomach), in addition to laboratory blood and urine analyses. The structure of various abdominal cavity organs: liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands, bladder, prostate, uterus, ovaries, magistral blood vessels of abdomen (aorta, renal blood vessels, …), possible presence of lymph nodes, free fluid or fluid collections are shown with this examination.

When should this examination be performed?

Ultrasound examination of abdomen should be performed in people having the following symptoms:

  • stomach or back pain
  • nausea, vomiting
  • flatulence
  • inexplicable loss of weight
  • heavy feeling
  • stomach swelling
  • injuries
  • baffling febrile conditions

Since the diagnostics is quite simple and safe, we recommend having a preventive ultrasound examination once a year to diagnose changes timely and prevent further disease development.

Preparation for the abdomen ultrasound examination requires no food for at least 4-6 hours before the examination. It is desirable that you have no intake of food that causes flatuses (kidney beans, peas, green beans, …), food such as cereals, fruit and vegetables that is high in fibers. It is necessary that you have an intake of 2-3 glasses of liquid one and a half hour before the examination, and not urinate.
